A Small Beginning With a Big Heart (2001)
Life Home Project began in 2001 with a simple but powerful belief:
everyone deserves safety, dignity, and hope.
In a small rented house in Phuket Town, a group of volunteers opened their doors to women and children affected by HIV — offering not just shelter, but care, connection, and a place to begin again.
The project was founded by:
- Mr. Jose Luis Guy Cano (Spain)
- Ms. Urai Samakarn (Rawai Health Promotion Hospital)
- Ms. Helene Mary Fallon-Wood (Ireland)
- Ms. Kathy Manthel and fellow American volunteers
Together, they built more than a program — they created a home.
Becoming a foundation (2003–2006)
As the need grew, so did the vision.
In 2003, the project was officially registered as the Life Home Project Foundation, securing its future and expanding its reach.
By 2006, it was recognized as a Public Charity Organization, strengthening its ability to work with hospitals, government agencies, and partners.
The foundation became a trusted place of refuge — where women and children could find support, stability, and a path forward.
A Home for Children (2006–2007)
In 2006, the foundation moved to Koh Sire.
In 2007, it was officially approved as a child welfare home, caring for up to 30 children.
This was more than a facility — it was a family.
Here, children found:
- Safety and belonging
- Access to education
- Healthy meals and daily care
- Emotional support and stability
At the same time, women were supported through training, healthcare access, and empowerment programs to help them rebuild their independence.
Growing With the Children
As the years passed, the foundation evolved to meet new challenges.
Its work expanded to include:
- HIV prevention and education
- Daycare services for working families
- Vocational training for women
- Home and hospital visits
- Youth leadership programs
- Scholarship support from kindergarten to university
To date, more than 175 children have received long-term educational support — a reflection of the community’s generosity and the foundation’s lasting commitment.
A Difficult Season (2022–2024)
The COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges.
Funding declined, and operational difficulties led to the temporary closure of the child welfare home from November 2022 to September 2024.
The remaining children were safely relocated to a center in Rayong Province, ensuring continuity of care.
Even during this period, the foundation remained active in its mission and responsibilities.
A New Beginning (2024–Present)
In 2024, the foundation entered a new chapter.
Led by Ms. Urai Samakarn, Mr. Phusit Saengkaew, and Mr. Noppadol Puangpan, the organization reassessed its mission and future direction.
With over 23 years of experience, strong infrastructure, and a continued need in the community, the decision was clear:
to reopen and expand its support.
In October 2024, the foundation reopened — now serving not only children affected by HIV, but all vulnerable children and individuals facing social hardship.

From a small rented house to a respected nonprofit, Life Home Project Foundation has always stood for the same values: compassion, dignity, and hope.
